Mayweather has new demand for Pacquiao fight
American superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. may fight Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao but only if the “Pacman” signs with his own company, Mayweather Promotions.
Mayweather, before an open media workout at the Mayweather Boxing Club, was again asked about a potential showdown against Pacquiao, which boxing fans have been asking about for several years now.
“If Pacquiao signed with Mayweather Promotions, then the fight could happen,” Mayweather told Black Sports Online. “But if he’s not signed to Mayweather Promotions, I’m not gonna fight (him).”
It is all but impossible for Pacquiao to sign with Mayweather Promotions, as the Filipino legend has just recently signed a contract extension with Top Rank Promotions.
The American boxer’s statement also runs counter to the recent announcement of Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum that a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight may be possible for 2015 after talks between networks Showtime and HBO.
Mayweather was quick to add that he is focused on his upcoming showdown against Argentina’s Marcos Maidana.
The pound-for-pound king will face Maidana in a rematch on September 13, after the Argentine lost a competitive decision against Mayweather last May.
Pacquiao, for his part, is set to defend his WBO welterweight belt against American Chris Algieri in November in Macau. ABS-CBNnews.com
